Camping with your dog in a tent can be difficult if you are not prepared. Prepare for your next camping adventure with these tips on how to make sleeping with your dog as easy as possible. Focus on those night hugs instead of straining on sleeping arrangements!
Keep your dog comfortable
The more comfortable your dog is while sleeping, the less restless he will be throughout the night. Get a sleeping mat for your dog like this one from our sister brand, Alpha Pak. A comfortable sleeping mat can change your dog’s play and give him a small piece of home while he is outdoors.
Let them inside your tent
While it may seem easier to leave your dog in the car or crate while you sleep in the tent, your dog will probably be more comfortable and at ease in a new environment if he is next to you. Invest in a tent that is large enough for both of you, and create a space with a sleeping mat and blankets in which your dog can nest in a bed.
Tire your dog
Probably with a whole day of hiking and exploring your dog will be exhausted before bed. However, be sure to provide them with a full day of exercise and adventure so that they are ready to sleep, especially on the first night of camping. This will remove the extra anxiety and potentially increase the quality of their sleep.
Introduce them to the tent
If your dog is camping for the first time or newer, let him get acquainted with the tent in which he will sleep before going camping. In your own home or backyard, let them sniff, lie down, and examine the tent and sleeping bag or mat that you carry for them. The comfort of your dog will only increase the more you are familiar with the equipment that will be used.
Wear a comfortable item
Even the most tired dogs can still feel anxious to sleep in a new place. Bring something your dog loves to the tent to provide comfort at home, as well as give him something to do if he can’t sleep. Their favorite toy, blanket or even a quick treat can make them feel more relaxed and make them a better sleep partner.
